چکیده
its adjacent structures can cause tracheal damage such as ulceration of the mucosa, tracheal stenosis, tracheoesophageal fistula, tracheomalacia and neck abscess. We describe a case of upper tracheal necrosis as a complication of total thyroidectomy in a hyperthyroid patient, highlighting some of the difficulties presented by a thyrotoxic goitre, which, to our knowledge has not been reported before.

Successful Treatment of Anterior Tracheal Necrosis after Total Thyroidectomy Using Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy
Total thyroidectomy involving the adjacent structures of the trachea can cause tracheal damage such as early tracheal necrosis. The authors describe the first case of anterior tracheal necrosis following total thyroidectomy treated using vacuum-assisted closure device. After two weeks of VAC therapy, there was no evidence of ongoing infection and the trachea was partially closed around a trach...
متن کاملTracheal necrosis, oesophageal fistula: unusual complications of thyroidectomy. Report of two case and literature review.

The authors report a case of tracheal necrosis after total thyroidectomy for multinodular goiter with bilateral adenomas, and a case of oesophageal fistula after total thyroidectomy for papillary cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS The patient with tracheal perforation was treated by a non operative management after clinical stabilization. ...
متن کاملAn unpredicted case of tracheal necrosis following thyroidectomy.
Tracheal rupture is a rare condition, and its most common cause is head and neck injury. Nontraumatic disruption of the anterolateral fibrocartilaginous trachea is an exceptional complication following thyroidectomy with few cases reported in literature. We report a case of upper tracheal necrosis arising 15 days after uneventful total thyroidectomy and resulted in pneumomediastinum and subcuta...

Advanced radioactive refractory and progressive or symptomatic differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) is a rare condition. Sorafenib was recently approved for the treatment of these patients. We present the case of a 67 year old woman diagnosed with DTC who underwent a total thyroidectomy with central, lateral-compartment neck dissection and shaving of the trachea and esophagus due to tumor inf...
